KLIKTRAK : LIVE ELECTRONIC AND DANCE MUSIC
KLIKTRAK`s
LIVE performances began largely as a continuation of the precedent created by
RED FRIDAY, who pioneered LIVE electronic
music performance in South Africa, between 1992 and 1996.
KLIKTRAK was a project created in order to deliver a unique blend of
progressive
techno-house/electronica grooves, to an audience that had not
yet experienced the full LIVE performance aspect of rave/dance culture,
that
had been such a definitive characteristic of European and
Stateside rave/dance cultures.
KLIKTRAK does
not mime, or playback from pre-recorded sources such as DAT or CD when
performing LIVE. But uses a combination of
fully sequenced tracks (composed and arranged), and
pre-sequenced elements or parts (which are looped), to control electronic
instrumentation
via MIDI and DIN-SYNC. The sequences (internal and MIDI) are
brought into the mix to form a track (arrangement), by using the MUTE/PLAY
function of the sequencer, and the controls of the mixer. In
essence it is this real-time arranging of the music, that constitutes
KLIKTRAK`s
LIVE performances.
Apart from the real-time arranging of tracks, the other major
element of a LIVE performance by KLIKTRAK, is the totally “hands on”
approach
employed. With the real-time arranging of tracks, it follows
that real-time LIVE control of the effects processing, EQ and other production
values
via the mixing desk, is necessary. So that when KLIKTRAK is
performing his music LIVE, a totally focused, concentrated working of all
control and
production elements is involved, in order to produce a
quality output of original electronic music. This all allows for a unique
response to the
audience and ambience of any specific event, which all
enhance the dedicated professional and innovative LIVE performance of electronic
music
by KLIKTRAK.
KLIKTRAK has performed mainly at undergound events, held
within Pietermaritzburg , Durban, and Johannesburg South Africa, and has
contributed to the scene strengthening, both in the
underground , and in the commercial dance-cultures.
KLIKTRAK is committed to delivering professional, fully LIVE
performances of electronic music, in the hope of elevating this unique
element
of electronic future culture, to a new level in
South Africa.
